Opposition parties demand a 'generous' Budget

The Finance Minister, Charlie McCreevy, will announce Budget 2004 later today revealing Government plans for taxation over the next year.

Last night, his department published its monthly Exchequer returns showing a major improvement in the state of the Government's finances.

Oppositions parties are demanding the reverse of a series of social welfare cuts to produce a more generous Budget.
