Carers appeal for increase in pay

The Carers Association is calling for parity of pay with foster parents in tomorrow's Budget.

It says the maximum weekly payment for carers is just under €130-a-week, while foster carers can receive up to €300-a-week for work of similar value to society.

An all-party Dáil committee last week recommended the abolition of means-testing for carers.

Chairperson of the Association, Sean Gallagher, said they would also like to see moves in that direction tomorrow.
