The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has banned a radio commercial promoting a new book by Sinn Féin President, Gerry Adams.

The radio campaign for the book ''Hope and Glory: Making Peace in Ireland'', which was due to begin on Friday, was banned by the BCI under legislation which prohibits ads considered to be for a political ends.

The commercials were due to be carried on local radio including such stations as Cork 96FM, Galway Bay FM, Radio Kerry and on Dublin's 98FM.
