Shotgun death: Man charged with conspiring to assault
Gardaí arrested a man today and charged him with conspiring with others to commit an assault on John Butler at Gurranebraher Road, Cork on October 7, 2002.
Mr Butler, aged 20, of Knocknaheeny Avenue. Cork, died as a result of injuries suffered in a single shotgun blast to the chest last October 7.
The incident followed a row in a nearby chip shop.
Thomas Morey (aged 23) of 101, Gerald Griffen St, Cork, was arrested by Det Sgt Denis Cahill today and charged with conspiring with others to commit an assault on John Butler at Gurranebraher Road on October 7 last.
Det Sgt Cahill said the defendant made no reply when charged at Gurranebraher garda station today, where he met the detective by appointment.
Inspector Denis O'Shea said there was no garda objection to the defendant being released on bail, but they asked for a significant independent surety.
Judge Con O'Leary set bail at €3,500 and adjourned the case to January 22.
