Call for bin charge waiver scheme

The Combat Poverty Agency has said it would be feasible to introduce a national bin charge waiver scheme for low-income families.

A survey for the agency has found that about half of the refuse collection services are now privatised, with the charges varying from €150 to €500.

Helen Johnson, the director of the agency, said the national waiver could be tax based.
