An Taisce offers ‘zero waste’ society

Conservation group An Taisce says a 'zero waste' society could be developed more quickly in this country than the incinerators currently planned.

The group is holding a conference today in Dublin discussing low cost solutions to the country's waste crisis.

Frank Corcoran, President of An Taisce, said a zero waste society could be developed in three easy steps.

Firstly, by local government putting in place the necessary infrastructure, such as municipal composters.

Then initiating an education programme to inform the public on recycling waste and of the outlets available for separated waste.

And finally by the Government supporting the recycling industry.
