Kitt announces extra funding for poor countries

€6.7m of funding for humanitarian assistance is to be given to some of the world's poorest countries.

The announcement was made today by Tom Kitt, Junior Minister for Foreign Affairs.

€5.5 million of the grant will be provided directly to UN agencies.

The lack of international assistance was also highlighted by Minister Kitt. Money should be given for the so called forgotten emergencies such as Angola, Sierra Leone, the Sudan and Congo, according to the Minister.
