A report due to be published tomorrow is expected to confirm the extent of the problems facing the health service.

It reveals difficulties in recruiting and retaining enough nurses and midwives.

The findings also show that some staff quit their jobs because of mental and phsical exhaustion.

General secretary of the Irish Nurses Organisation Liam Doran says nurses and midwives are handling unacceptable workloads.
