Former Official IRA man collapses at Saville Inquiry

A former Official IRA man has collapsed while giving evidence to the Saville Inquiry in Derry.

The man, identified only as OIRA4, had earlier admitted firing two shots at British soldiers after they entered the Bogside area of Derry on Bloody Sunday more than 31 years ago.

He said he fired at the soldiers from the end of Chamberlain Street and was seen at the time by Fr Edward Daly, who later became Bishop of Derry.

OIRA4 also said that he left the area when he realised he would make no impact against the advancing troops.

An ambulance was called when the witness collapsed during his evidence today and the tribunal was adjourned until tomorrow.
