Greens seek investigation into Derrybrien wind farm
The Green Party has called for an inter-departmental review to investigate why a wind farm project was allowed to go ahead in the Derrybrien area of Co Galway.
Locals in the area have blamed the construction of the wind farm for a landslide that damaged roads and bridges in the area and was also threatening fish stocks and water supplies.
Green Party spokesman Eamon Ryan said: "You can’t just go in and fast-track a project and not take into account whether it will affect the existing environment. That seems to be what happened here.
"The local authority came out very strong in saying that the proposal wouldn’t work. An Bórd Pleanála, unfortunately, overturned that advice and allowed the project to go ahead."
