Irish MEP Patricia McKenna has expressed her opposition to new EU proposals that, she said, could stop credit unions from providing loans to low-income families.

Ms McKenna said the proposed legislation, due to be voted on in the European Parliament today, would increase administration costs and make it uneconomical for financial institutions to provide small loans.
