Justice Minister Michael McDowell has reportedly agreed to provide an extra €2m to the gardaí this year to help their fight against organised criminals.

The cash will be mainly spent on boosting garda resources and increasing armed patrols in Limerick and the Finglas area of Dublin, where several people have been shot dead this year as part of ongoing gangland feuds.
