Agreement not up for negotiation: Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has said that hard-line unionists must accept an all-Ireland agenda if they want to see a return to devolved government in the North.

Speaking with US Special Envoy to Ireland, Richard Haas, Mr Adams said that the Good Friday Agreement cannot be re-negotiated.

The pair were meeting in New York to discuss the recent failure of Unionists and Republicans to agree over IRA decommissioning and the collapse of negotiations between Sinn Féin and the Ulster Unionists.

Mr Adams re-instated his view that efforts to restore the power-sharing institutions must proceed urgently after the North’s November elections.
