Galway landslide: 'Action plan needed'

Fine Gael TD Paul Connaghton has called on Environment Minister Martin Cullen to devise an action plan to tackle the crisis caused by an ongoing landslide in Co Galway.

Thousands of tonnes of mud have been running down a gorge on the side of a mountain in Derrybrien since earlier this week.

Local residents have expressed fears that the mudslide could affect water supplies and fish stocks and could also threaten homes.

It has already blocked several roads and bridges. Mr Connaghton, the local TD, said the landslide was a "huge disaster by any standards".
