Distressed mother contacted agency last night

Gardaí in Dublin are continuing to search for a newborn baby apparently abandoned in a flat in Ballymun earlier this week.

The search was launched on Monday after a young girl contacted an aid agency to say she had abandoned the baby behind a couch in the derelict flat on Sunday night.

Gardaí said the girl contacted a different agency again last night and they are now concentrating their search at a four-storey flats complex in Poppintree.

Around 50 officers are involved in the operation.
