Govt sells Cork barracks for €41m
Defence Minister Michael Smith has formally completed the sale of Murphy Barracks in Ballincollig, Co Cork.
The 90-acre site has been sold for €41m, with the proceeds due to be reinvested in the Defence Forces.
Cork County Council will also take possession of 27 acres of land attached to the site.
Murphy Barracks, the largest of six military installations identified for closure in 1998, is due to be replaced with a residential and commercial development.
