Adoption groups discuss new Govt legislation

Interest groups from throughout Ireland are due to meet in Dublin today to discuss the Government’s proposed new legislation on adoption.

The groups are expected to call on Junior Minister for Health and Children, Brian Lenihan, to delete a section of the legislation that could see adopted people jailed for trying to contact their biological parents.

Adoption Ireland has described today’s consultations on the proposed legislation as the most important since adoption was legalised in Ireland 50 years ago.
