Lobby group claims smoke ban could cost householders

The Irish Hospitality Industry Alliance has claimed the proposal to make private houses subject to the smoking ban could cost householders up to €2,000.

This new regulation opens business people and householders to huge compliance costs where they must produce risk and safety assessments if one or more persons work at home.

Chairman of the IHIA, Finbar Murphy, says without the safety assessments people are open to prosecution with fines of up to €125,000.
