Interbreeding could wipe out Atlantic salmon

New research from the Marine Institute shows that interbreeding between wild and cultivated salmon could result in the extinction of populations of Atlantic salmon.

However the institute said that the relatively low number of salmon escaping from Irish fish farms does not pose a significant threat to the wild population.
