Haas wants North elections soon

The US special envoy to Ireland, Richard Haas, has said elections are a key element of the Good Friday Agreement and should take place in the North as soon as possible.

The US special envoy to Ireland, Richard Haas, has said elections are a key element of the Good Friday Agreement and should take place in the North as soon as possible.

He held talks in Belfast with all the Northern parties today.

He said it would be preferable if elections led to the restoration of devolution and the power-sharing executive, but nothing has been gained by the postponement of elections earlier this year.
