McAleese meets Olympic 'ban' athletes

Irish President Mary McAleese has met with Hong Kong athletes after Ireland was criticised earlier for trying to ban them from attending this year’s Special Olympics due to the SARS crisis, team officials said.

Following accusations of discriminating against the handicapped, Ireland eventually backed down from its plan to bar five delegations from SARS-hit areas from going to Dublin, where the event was hosted in June.
