Undercover customs officers have smashed an illegal oil laundry in Co Meath.

The operation had the potential to launder 50,000 litres of diesel every week with a potential loss of Revenue of €1.3m annually.

Two men in their twenties were apprehended at the scene.

One man, from the North, has been arrested and will appear before Drogheda District Court this evening.

A file is being prepared in relation to the other man, who is from the Republic.

The seizure consisted of 15,000 litres of diesel, together with a truck and equipment.

It had the capacity to create 50,000 litres a year.
