Green Party slams US ruling on toxic ships

The Green Party has criticised a US court ruling granting permission for a fleet of asbestos-laden ships to be transported across the Atlantic to England for dismantling.

Party leader Trevor Sergeant said although the derelict warships are not due to enter Irish waters, they could still pose a danger to the environment.

Mr Sergeant said the Irish marine emergency services were not equipped to deal with the consequences if one of the ships got into trouble.
