Gardaí questioned after weapons found on plane
Three gardaí were among a group of six men questioned after items including CS spray, stun guns and telescopic batons were found in the hold of a plane, officers said today.
The men volunteered themselves to speak to British police at Stansted Airport after the weapons were found on the plane from Berlin and seized shortly after 10.30am yesterday.
Other non-lethal items had already been seized in Berlin, an Irish police spokesman said.
A spokesman for Essex police said: “A number of offensive weapons were found at Stansted Airport in the hold of a flight from Berlin, including CS spray, telescopic batons and stun guns.
“Six men volunteered themselves to speak to the police. Two of them offered explanations about the items. The passengers then continued to Dublin.”
The men flew to Dublin Airport where they were questioned by gardaí.
A Garda spokesman confirmed that six men – including three Irish police officers – were questioned about the haul after they landed in Dublin last night.
He added: “A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is being carried out by a senior officer."
