'Portlaoise Prison costs €200,000 per inmate'

The annual cost of keeping a prisoner incarcerated at Portlaoise Prison has risen to more than €200,000, according to the Irish Prison Service’s annual report for 2002.

The figure represents an increase of almost €30,000 on the cost of keeping an inmate in Portlaoise in 2001.
