Youths attack police with petrol bombs

Police were attacked by petrol bombs as a crowd of youths went on the rampage in Derry, it emerged today.

Officers came under fire in Butchers Street, where teenagers had thrown a device at commercial premises last night.

No damage was caused but when the vandals saw a police vehicle in nearby Rossville Street a bomb was hurled at it. No one was injured.

Later two more devices were thrown at a wall surrounding the Fountain estate area of the city, police said.

Another struck the Masonic Lodge military base, causing minor damage.
