Amnesty International is welcoming the decision in Northern Nigeria to quash the death sentence imposed on a woman on an adultery charge.

32-year-old Amina Lawal was to be buried up to the neck in sand and stoned to death. She was convicted of adultery in March 2002, following the birth of her daughter, two years after she divorced her husband.
