Greens: Irish troops in Iraq 'foolhardy'
The Green Party deputy leader, John Gormley is calling on the Government not to send Irish troops to Iraq.
He has asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Taoiseach to outline the Government’s position clearly in relation to a new UN resolution on Iraq.
Mr Gormley says there should be no UN mandate to favour the continuing dominant role of the US in Iraq.
He says sending Irish troops there would be foolhardy and irresponsible, and the Green Party will oppose the move.
