Nine bin tax protestors due before High Court

Seven men and two women are due to appear before the High Court this morning following their arrests yesterday for allegedly obstructing refuse collections in Dublin.

The nine anti-bin tax campaigners were arrested after allegedly blockading a bin lorry in Blanchardstown as part of protests against the controversial tax.

Last week, the High Court granted an injunction preventing the obstruction of refuse collection and the nine due in court today could face fines or prison in connection with their actions.

Two bin tax protestors, Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins and councillor Clare Daly, were jailed for a month last Friday for organising the blockades and refusing to honour the court injunction.
