Greens slam falling prices for farm produce
The Green Party has criticised the falling proportion of retail prices that farmers receive for their produce.
Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships in Co Meath, party leader Trevor Sergeant said: "If you look back over the years going back to the 1950s, a farmer could expect to get 50% of the shop price for their produce.
"Now, that has been whittled down [to around 8%], with pressure coming on from the corporate sector. It means that farming is less and less viable."
