Government defends child poverty record

The Government is defending its record on child poverty, after the publication of a report by Barnardos which claims that more than 90,000 children are going without proper food and clothing every day in Ireland.

The Government says it has implemented the largest series of social welfare and child benefit increases in the history of social welfare.
