Donegal to host commemoration of 1983 Maze break-out
Sinn Féin is due to host a party in Co Donegal tonight to mark the 20th anniversary of the mass escape of IRA inmates from the infamous Maze Prison.
Thirty-eight republican prisoners broke out of the high-security prison in September 1983.
Many were recaptured within hours, but 19 succeeded in going on the run and some have never been heard from since.
Unionists have condemned tonight’s celebration, pointing out that a prison officer was killed during the break-out.
