The Labour Party has criticised Justice Minister Michael McDowell following the publication of a survey showing that 84% of young Irish people have their first drink before the legal age of 18.

The Labour Party has criticised Justice Minister Michael McDowell following the publication of a survey showing that 84% of young Irish people have their first drink before the legal age of 18.

Party spokesman Joe Costello said Mr McDowell had refused to introduce measures to combat the problem, particularly a method to allow gardaí to trace cans and bottles to the off-licence where they were sold.
