Loyalists launch failed attempt to seize prison cell block

Loyalist prisoners have failed in an effort to seize control of a cell block in Co Antrim’s Maghaberry Prison.

The inmates confronted staff while they were being moved to Magilligan Prison in Co Derry today and demanded the keys to one of the blocks.

The incident sparked a stand-off, with prison staff refusing to hand over the keys.

The prisoners were being moved to Magilligan as part of preparations for the separation of loyalist and republican inmates in Maghaberry.
