Minister ‘would have preferred metro to LUAS’

Transport Minister Seamus Brennan has revealed that he would have preferred a city-wide metro system to the current LUAS light-rail network being constructed in Dublin.

Mr Brennan was speaking following sharp criticism of the LUAS project from former Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald.

Mr Fitzgerald said the light-rail system was badly planned, illogical and would do very little to alleviate traffic problems.

He said the two LUAS lines currently under construction were not interchangeable and the Tallaght line passed through 4km of wasteland in order to avoid the population centres of Crumlin and Kimmage.
