46,000 get penalty points

A total of 46,000 drivers across the country have incurred penalty points on their licences for speeding since the system was introduced in the Irish Republic last November.

A total of 46,000 drivers across the country have incurred penalty points on their licences for speeding since the system was introduced last November.

Penalty points are now be imposed for failure to wear safety belts as well as speeding and more offences are set to be added to the list.
