Police in the Canary Islands are investigating the attempted rape of a 21-year-old Irish woman.

Police in the Canary Islands are investigating the attempted rape of a 21-year-old Irish woman.

The attack happened on Thursday at the popular resort of Puerto del Carmen, on the small island of Lanzarote.

A 34-yea-old immigrant from Mauritania in North West Africa has been arrested.

It is not known at this stage what part of Ireland the victim is from.
