Fine Gael TD Gay Mitchell has called on authorities in the US state of Florida to lift the death sentence imposed on anti-abortion activist Paul Hill.

Mr Hill is due to be executed by lethal injection tonight for murdering an abortion doctor and his escort in 1994.
