FG: Lift death sentence on anti-abortion activist

Fine Gael TD Gay Mitchell has called on authorities in the US state of Florida to lift the death sentence imposed on anti-abortion activist Paul Hill.

Mr Hill is due to be executed by lethal injection tonight for murdering an abortion doctor and his escort in 1994.

Mr Mitchell has called on Florida Governor Jeb Bush to spare Hill’s life, saying the death sentence "only perpetuates a cycle of life-taking".
