Govt to hold cabinet meeting in Laois

The Government is to hold its annual cabinet meeting outside Dublin today in the stately home of Emo Court close to Portlaoise.

The main item on the agenda is Ireland's presidency of the EU which starts in January next year.

The difficult financial situation and the proposed total ban on smoking in the workplace, including in pubs and restaurants, will also be discussed.
