Dempsey to change remit of child abuse inquiry

Education Minister Noel Dempsey has announced plans to change the remit of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse in an effort to reduce costs and speed up the inquiry.

Mr Dempsey said last night that, if the commission continued in its current form, it could take up to 11 years to complete its work, with potential legal fees of up to €200m.
