Chernobyl victims to visit Curragh training camp

Thirteen terminally ill children from Belarus are due to visit the Irish Defence Forces training camp in the Curragh later today.

The children, all victims of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, will be given access to the camp's swimming pool and equine centre.

They will also see a display of military equipment.

Speaking about the visit, Commandant Brian Cleary said: "Many of our missions have a humanitarian aspect and this is an extension of that type of humanitarian gesture."
