Suspected Legionnaires case in Dublin

A man in his thirties is being treated for suspected Legionnaires disease at Tallaght General Hospital.

He was admitted to another undisclosed hospital a couple of weeks ago and later transferred to Tallaght.

This evening, the hospital confirmed the man had contracted Legionnaires outside the hospital.

It’s believed the man’s residence has been fumigated and isolated while an investigation takes place as to how he may have contracted the disease.

The identity of the man is not being released but his condition is described as critical.

He is being treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
