Human remains have been found in the north of Co Louth.

It is believed the skeletal remains were found at Shelling Hill Beach. Gardaí are refusing to speculate on the identity of the body.

The location is less than a quarter of a mile from where an extensive excavation effort took place for the body of Jean McConville, who was murdered by the IRA in December 1972.

A tip-off that her body was buried at Templetown Beach in Louth led to a lengthy search last year, however nothing was found.
