Largest ever abuse settlement made

The largest ever settlement in a sex abuse case involving the church has been made to a Co Sligo man today.

The settlement was made by the Kiltegan Fathers, based in Co Wicklow to a man abused when he was a 13-year-old. He has been paid €325,000 in compensation.

The case dates back to 1982. The current whereabouts of the priest responsible are unknown.

The order has been commended for the way it handled the settlement of the case by those campaigning for victims of abuse.
