The Government is making €2m available for humanitarian aid in Liberia.

Announcing the allocation, the overseas development minister Tom Kitt says it is targeted at helping the 450,000 people displaced by the fighting there.

He also warned that a wide-ranging international response was critical to the success of the peace process in Liberia.

The monies will go to such organisations as Trócaire, Concern, Oxfam, Red Cross, World Vision Ireland and a number of UN agencies.
