NEHB launches inquiry into patient death

The North Eastern Health Board has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a psychiatric patient after he went missing while in the care of two nurses in Co Roscommon.

John Gallagher's body was recovered from the River Shannon near Rooskey last night.

Mr Gallagher, 40, of Cresslough, Letterkenny in Co Donegal had gone missing three days before as he was transferred to Donegal from an appointment in Dublin.

The patient went missing when the group stopped for a rest in Roscommon. Gardaí were alerted and a search got underway.
