Minister launches €400,000 mushroom promotion campaign

Junior Minister Noel Treacy has launched an advertising campaign to promote the consumption of mushrooms in Ireland.

Junior Minister Noel Treacy has launched an advertising campaign to promote the consumption of mushrooms in Ireland.

Mr Treacy said €400,000 would be spent on the campaign over the next three years.

The promotion will be jointly financed by the European Commission, the Department of Agriculture and the Irish Mushroom Growers' Association.

It is designed to raise awareness of the nutritional value of mushrooms, which are a rich source of vitamin B1 and niacin and contain important minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, iron and copper.
