Govt to make fresh stadium appeal to private sector

Sports Minister John O'Donoghue is reportedly planning to make another appeal to the private sector to help build a 65,000-seater national stadium in Ireland.

Private businessmen were previously asked to submit offers to build the stadium, but the Government rejected all the plans put forward as the developers wanted large tax breaks and land incentives.

The private sector was asked to get involved after the cabinet refused to fund the entire project, which could have cost up to €1bn.

Mr O'Donoghue has said he wants a stadium constructed as part of a joint effort involving the Government, the private sector, the FAI and the IRFU.
