Gardaí still questioning C-IRA suspect

Gardaí were today continuing to question a man held in Limerick as part of ongoing investigations into the activities of the Continuity IRA dissident terrorist group and links with local gangland feuding.

The man was detained on Wednesday under the terms of anti-terrorist legislation permitting suspects to be kept in custody for up to 72 hours before being either charged or released.

The arrest followed the detention by British police of three men in Lancashire last weekend, one of them with a Limerick connection.

The trio are now being held in London under Britain’s Terrorism Act.

The man being quizzed in Limerick is in his 30s and gardaí have said his detention is regarded as significant.

Among other things, he is being questioned about the alleged import of arms to Limerick.
