Major delays are expected on flights in and out of New York for most of today as the biggest power cut in US history brought flights to a halt at JFK and LaGuardia airports.

Aer Rianta says flights that were due to take off for Ireland are still grounded and it's unclear as yet how long the delays will be.

Flights from Dublin and Shannon to New York this morning may not take off on time and passengers are asked to check with their airlines before setting out.
